MicroFiction: Rest

Micro/ Flash Fiction Theme: I’ll call it a night…

Nurse Fiona washed her hands. They still seemed tainted. Memories of drawing marks with lipstick on the wounded flashed behind her eyes.

Who was she to decide who lived and died?

There were just too many that were injured after the attack.

“Stop.” Hannah, her coworker, turned off the water. “You need sleep.”

“I’ll call it a night— soon. There are —”

“Hush now.” Hannah directed Fiona to an empty cot.

“But the sailors…” Fiona’s words slurred as she lay down.

“…Will be taken care of. Now rest.” Hannah covered the teary-eyed woman with a blanket.
